Emir Kusturica to make "The Bridge on the Drina" movie: A masterpiece on the big screen
"Our past, presents, and I fear our future is in the novel, 'The Bridge on the Drina'"
There are plans to turn Ivo Andric's famous novel "The Bridge on the Drina" into a movie, Novosti reported today and recalled that filmmaker Emir Kusturica was "never hiding his admiration for our Nobel Prize winner" to whom he also dedicated his Andricgrad in Visegrad.
Those who closely follow the work of the famous director know that a screen adaptation of Andric's famous novel has been Kusturica's decades-long obsession. The director once stated that "our past, presents, and I fear our future is in the novel, 'The Bridge on the Drina'," Fonet is reproting.
"It is our Old Testament," said Kusturica, who believes that "it would be easier to build another bridge than to make a film based on Andric's novel."
"The problem will be solved by introducing into the film the consequences that the events in the novel have today," Kusturica once said, aware of the responsibility that making a movie out of the monumental work carries with it.
