6 tons of hazardous waste removed from village near Smederevo: It was dumped in metal barrels
A misdemeanor procedure will be initiated against the suspect
The Ministry of Environmental Protection removed and safely handled about six tons of hazardous waste that was improperly disposed of at a location in the area of the village of Lugavcina near Smederevo. The ministry acted at the request of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Smederevo.
The removal of hazardous waste in the village of Lugavcina near Smederevo was a priority for the removal and permanent disposal of hazardous waste from the territory of the Republic of Serbia in 2020, in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures, the Ministry of Environmental Protection said in a statement.
After discovering the illegally dumped hazardous waste, found in metal barrels left in the area of the village of Lugavcina, the Republic Inspector for Environmental Protection, based on unscheduled inspection, issued a decision on the legal obligation of the suspected person to remove the hazardous waste, and filed a request against them in order to initiate misdemeanor proceedings.
The Republic Inspector for Environmental Protection also filed a report against the said person and a complaint to initiate a misdemeanor procedure, due to non-compliance with the decision.
