The abbot of the monastery Visoki Decani, Archimandrite Sava Janjic, said that the suspension of works on the Decani-Plav road through the protected zone of the monastery is an encouraging gesture of the Pristina interim government and local authorities in Decani.

"An encouraging gesture of the government and the municipality, which indicates that it is possible the construction of this road will done as a bypass around the monastery zone, in accordance with the earlier decision of the Kosovo government from 2014," Janjic said last night in a post on Twitter, reports Tanjug.

The Diocese of Raska and Prizren of the Serbian Orthodox Church previously warned that the continuation of the construction of the road in the protected monastery zone, due to the passage of a large number of heavy construction vehicles, could have statically damaged the 14th century church and monastery buildings, reported Kosovo Online.

The prime minister of the provisional institutions of Pristina, Avdullah Hoti, and Mayor of Decani Baskim Ramusaj agreed in yesterday's meeting that the works on the Decani-Plav road should be suspended, it was announced from Hoti's cabinet.

A statement from Hoti's cabinet added that they agreed and that in order to find a solution, everyone involved in the problem must be spoken with.
