A coach of Jagodina football club's junior teams, Stefan Pavlovic, who was struck by lightning during a training session on Tuesday, is still in intensive care of the General Hospital in Jagodina, and, as we have learned, he is in an induced coma. As Telegraf.rs has found out, if the consulting team of doctors decides so, he will be transferred to one of the tertiary institutions in Belgrade.

According to our source, Pavlovic is on a ventilator. The good news is that his heart rate and breathing are fine.

"The doctors are doing their job. Realistically, he could be taken off the ventilator, however, such decisions should be left to the team of doctors who are taking care of him," our source said.

According to him, a consulting team of doctors from various fields are the ones treating Pavlovic.

"If they asses that it should be done, he can be transferred to Belgrade, to one of the tertiary institutions," said our source from this healthcare institution.

The General Hospital in Jagodina has not had a similar case in recent years. However, as we found out, about 30 years ago, an identical event unfolded.

"Maybe some 30 years ago  lightning also struck a person in a footbal field in a rural area," our source recalled.

He was clinically dead

Pavlovic was clinically dead when he was brought to the hospital, a doctor from this institution, who wished to remain anonymous, told Tanjug last night.

First medical aid was given on the pitch at around 7 pm, from where he was transported to the hospital. None of the young players who were training at that time were injured.

As another coach of Jagodina football club's junior teams, Goran Jovic, told Novosti, there was no thunder or storm at the time the accident happened.

"Stefan coached children aged 9 and 10. Suddenly, one sole lightning struck Stefan directly, who immediately fell down. We were all shocked, but we reacted quickly."

"All the coaches and some of the parents ran up to him, gave him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and provided first aid. Parents ran to the field to pick up their children, and the children ran towards their parents. An ambulance arrived five or six minutes later and they immediately took him to the General Hospital," Jovic said.
