An apartment window in Boska Djuricica Street in Jagodina, that was open due to the hot weather, was used by a young eagle owl last night. She flew in and settled comfortably on a piece of furniture.

When a former long-term captain of the handball club Jagodina Ivana Jevtic, who lives in the apartment, woke up, she wasn't very comfortable with the situation and tried to drive the owl out. Hover, the bird ignored the noise she was making. Jevtic then woke up her husband who used a broom to painlessly nudge the owl to leave the apartment.

Eagle owls live in this part of Jagodina that has a park next to the Railway Station and the Museum of Naive Art, and this year there are many of these birds there, say local biologists.

Last spring, in another part of the town, one owl chick fell out of its nest into a churchyard and was rescued by priests and experts from the Veterinary Specialist Institute in Jagodina, where she stayed for several weeks, under the supervision of the institute's director Dr. Zoran Rasic.

Owls are very useful predators and are a strictly protected species in Serbia.
