Pristina media: Mike Pompeo refuses to receive Skender Hyseni
Hyseni traveled to Washington on Sunday
Citing diplomatic sources in Washington, Pristina daily Lajmi writes, and Kosovo Online reports that US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo refused to meet with Pristina's coordinator for the dialogue with Belgrade Skender Hyseni.
Hyseni traveled to Washington on Sunday in order to have meetings with US officials about the future of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.
According to Lajmi, the United States aimed to give new momentum and energy to the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, with the direct engagement of President Donald Trump, who sent two letters, calling on the president of Serbia and the president of the provisional institutions of Pristina to reach an agreement.
Trump also appointed a special envoy for the dialogue, but this met with EU member-states' opposition, who insisted that the dialogue be mediated by them, despite the fact that the process had stalled for a long time due to insufficient engagement of member-states, Lajmi writes.
Earlier on Monday, Pristina-based Koha said that the meeting with Pompeo was not planned and that Hyseni would meet only with Special Representative for the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer - although Hyseni stated upon his arrival in the United States that he would meet with both American officials.
