Man suspected of setting woman on fire in Surcin placed in custody: She died two days later
He is suspected of waiting for the victim in the building where she lived, approaching her and pouring gasoline on her from a canister he had prepared in advance, and then setting her on fire
The Higher Court in Belgrade has ordered the detention for R.B., who is suspected of setting Z.K. on fire on July 13. The suspect was in a relationship with the victim and acted out of jealousy. The woman died two days later from the burns.
A pre-trial judge ordered his detention at the proposal of the prosecution due to existence of special circumstances indicating he could repeat the crime in a short period of time, court spokesperson Tatjana Tesic told Tanjug.
After spending several days in hiding, B.R. was arrested on Saturday, and yesterday he was questioned at the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office for the crime of aggravated murder committed in a vicious way.
He is suspected of waiting for the victim in Surcin, a suburb of Belgrade, in the building where she lived, approaching her and pouring gasoline from a canister he had prepared in advance, and then setting her on fire.
Z.K. suffered severe bodily injuries, from which she died on July 15.
