Pancevo mourns: Father of girl (11) who drowned in Lim managed to save his son but not his daughter

Eyewitnesses say that they could watch the car sinking into the river

A family from Pancevo has been struck by great tragedy when the body of their 11-year-old girl K. I. was pulled out of the Lim River. She is the only one who didn't survive a serious traffic accident. Her father and brother saved themselves when their car that drove off the road and fell into the river.

Although the girl's father, Ivica D., tried to pull the unfortunate child out of the water, he failed because the car sank. According to eyewitnesses, he pulled his son to safety, and then returned to the river to help his daughter. One of the young men who found themselves at the scene even dived down, but there was nothing he could do.

As we have learned, the family from Pancevo is in the hospitality business and owns a bistro in the city center. The children attended primary school in this town.

Boy prayed to God that his sister may live

M.O., a truck driver who he came across the scene of the accident only a few minutes after it happened, saw a boy crying.

"As it was nighttime, at one point I saw the silhouette of a child in a crawling position. I heard him cry. I came to him, asked him what was going on," the visibly shaken trucker told his story.

"'My dad's down there, my sister's in the water. God, please save my sister. I don't want to lose my sister' the boy was repeating through sobs. I tried to calm him down. His clothes were completely wet. I took off his T-shirt and socks, brought a towel from the truck. People who were nearby brought him a dry T-shirt to put on," the truck driver told the daily Novosti.

M.O. he says he will never forget that scene. As the boy told him, his father rescued him and when he was safe, returned to rescue his sister.

A group people came to the river, he says, trying to help the unfortunate man.

"One guy, who is a local and lives nearby, even went in the river, dived down, but unfortunately he did not manage to help," says the truck driver. Eyewitnesses could literally watch the car sinking into the river.
