There is an increasing number of younger patients with Covid 19 who have a serious clinical picture and pneumonia, says the director of the Infectious Diseases Clinic, Doctor Goran Stevanovic.

He said that the course of the disease in the new wave is unpredictable, that there are patients who develop a severe clinical picture from the very beginning, while others initially have milder symptoms that last for several days, and then their condition suddenly deteriorates.

"The course of this disease is unpredictable in some patients, making constant monitoring necessary. Patients who initially have a milder clinical picture can be treated at home, but constant monitoring is necessary," Stevanovic told reporters in Belgrade.

As he said, in patients with Covid 19, the clinical picture is such that it usually requires long-term therapy - two or three weeks of treatment.

"That is the reason why we need additional hospital capacities. Our strategy is to monitor the situation from day to day, to try to be at least one day ahead of the epidemic and that none of the patients who need hospital treatment are left without a place in the hospital," he stated.

He made an appeal on citizens to keep contact to a minimum, and postpone celebrations and trips until the situation "calms down a little."

"Each contact carries a risk of virus transmission," warned Stevanovic.
