A 200-meter long beach has been cleaned up in Stara Palanka after 20 years, using heavy machinery and with the engagement of the utilities company from Bela Crkva. There have been sporadic initiatives before, but now the bay in a pocket of the Danube River looks like a seascape.

The bay of the Danube, which is flooded by the Nera River, is a true oasis in the widest part of the European beauty, reports TV Banat.

For years, fishers were catching the best river fish here, spending seven months a year on the water. They tried as hard as they could to preserve the environment.

People are not the only ones to blame for what the river bank looked like before, claims Ljubomir Cvetinovic, a retired pilot who knows about the power of wind the best.

It was the turn of the municipality of Bela Crkva and the local community in Stara Palanka, which attracts the most tourists in the summer and on weekends. The campaign to clean up the river bank was organized for the sake of visitors, locals, but also numerous weekend home owners who stay here a good part of the year.
