In Montenegro, the conditions have been met to declare the end of the coronavirus epidemic, said the assistant director of the Institute of Public Health (IZJ), Senad Begic.

Montenegro has had two incubation periods of 28 days without new cases of coronavirus.

"Epidemiological conditions are being met for the IZJ to consider canceling the epidemic. It is a legally defined procedure that says that an epidemic can end when a double incubation period has passed. The period is not defined by law, rather it is defined by some epidemiological rules. Two incubations without new cases, and the conditions have truly been met for the epidemic to be canceled," Begic told RTCG morning program.

He explained that in legal and formal terms, this does not change much on the ground, because the risk of illness is still present.

"The cancellation of the epidemic means almost nothing. The first wave has formally finished, but the measures and orders of the Ministry and the recommendations of the IZJ remain in force. These are physical distancing, hand washing and the use of masks. In all EU countries, wearing masks is mandatory as it is in our country, i.e., in closed, public spaces where a physical distance of two meters cannot be maintained. Whether that will stay that way, depends on the further movement of the infection," said Begic.

He recalled that there were no newly discovered cases of infection in Montenegro yesterday, which means that two incubation periods of 28 days had passed without any new cases.
