Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said today that Serbia is on its way out of the epidemic and that it is entering a period of sporadic outbreaks of coronavirus, stating also that so-called "pockets" can also occur during the month of June.

"We are definitely coming out of the epidemic period. During yesterday, we were at 0.8 percent positive out of the number of those tested. When that falls below 0.5, it will be a sporadic occurrence," Kon told RTS.

Kon said that for now, reopening nursing homes is out of the question.

"As long as the virus is in circulation it can enter a collective of vulnerable people, such as a nursing home. For now, there will be no opening of (nursing) homes, as soon as there is no virus in the circulation, then it will be adequately followed through," he said.

Speaking about antibody testing, Kon said that a citizen, if they receive a positive result, should see a doctor, i.e. an infectologist, virologist or immunologist.

"They must be examined and the doctors must explain what to do next. It is necessary to interview that person to see where the infection could have occurred," the doctor explained.

As he said, protective masks will be obligatory for all people over the age of 65 and for chronic patients in the coming period during the summer.

"Until we announce that there is no virus at all and the result is 'zero'. Then, they too will be able to relax," concluded Kon.
