Vucic announces: New package of economic measures "best in history"; Here's what it's all about

"Best package in history"

At the end of the year, salaries in the public sector, for health and education workers and others will be increased again, said President Aleksandar Vucic.

"We endured all this easier than others. There will be no cuts of salaries in the public sector, which will be a rare case in Europe, but we will look to increase salaries again at the end of the year for healthcare workers and education sector workers, and I hope, for members of the army and police and social welfare workers," Vucic said during a tour of reconstruction works at the Prokuplje Health Center.

He stressed that in terms of economic development we are rapidly catching up with the countries that were ahead of us, adding that he expects Serbia to catch up with Croatia in terms of GDP by the end of 2021.

"I expect that at the end of 2021, and our plan was for that to happen in 2027, we will have the same GDP as Croatia. That is our plan. That only speaks to how fast Serbia is catching up with others, and that is why we can renovate all these facilities," he stated.

He added that around 30 million euros have never before been invested in Prokuplje or the Toplica area.

Asked whether there will be new economic measures, and whether "something is left" after this, Vucic recalled that money "cannot be taken out of the jar", but that there is always some.

"In our country, GDP must not exceed 60 percent. The question will be raised again how we will finance it. We will take care to live according to our means. There is one idea we are working on. Additional incentives for employment will be a new measure," announced Vucic.

As he explained, that measure is being prepared in order to encourage employment, and keep as many workers as possible in Serbia.

"We want to preserve workers, and employ more people and keep our people in Serbia," said Vucic.

He referred to this as "the best package of measures in history for employment." He said that these new incetives will be presented within two weeks.

President Vucic siad that it is important to continue raising salaries of healthcare workers, so that they stay in the country.
