A storm accompanied by hailstones the size of a walnut, roared through central Serbia yesterday afternoon. Houses were left without roofs, raspberry orchards and vineyards were damaged, windshield on cars smashed, and in some places animals were injured, too.

Large amounts of precipitation and large-sized hailstones fell first on Sjenica and the surrounding places around 3 pm, and then hit Ivanjica, i.e., Golija, where ice rain fell first.

Images from the village of Bagacice in Sjenica show how much damage the hailstorm caused in this part of Serbia. There was almost no roof that left intact during the storm that ravaged the Pesterska Plateau. Cars were also damaged, as well as raspberry crops in the surrounding villages.

The storm that hit Sjenica destroyed the house and yard in the household of Vujadin Rakonjac from the village of Bagacice.

"Everything has been destroyed, we have nowhere to sleep tonight. The roof of the house has been leveled, the barn is demolished, my cows were injured, beaten up," Vujadin Rakonjac told the daily Informer.

In the village of Boguti near Sjenica, which suffered the most from the hailstorm yesterday, a hailstone the size of an egg killed a cat.

300 missiles fired in Krusevac

Soon, the clouds from Sjenica moved towards Trstenik, Vrnjacka Banja, Kraljevo and Krusevac.

In Krusevac alone, about 300 anti-hail missiles were fired, but a strong hailstorm could not be avoided.

Hailstones caused damage to agricultural crops and orchards, but also to buildings and a large number of cars.

Images of the storm and the destruction left in its wake are coming from Kupac, Citluk, Kukljina and Jasika, which show the damage done by the hail clouds.

Alarm bells in Arilje as well

Last night around three o'clock, a strong storm followed by rain and hail, which was first the size of a walnut, and then of a hazelnut, affected the center of Arilje and several surrounding villages.

"We still don't know where the storm roared onto and which villages were affected by the hailstorm, but there are broken trees in the city center and in nearby Latvica," said the mayor, Milos Nedeljkovic.

The largest amount of precipitation is expected in the area of ​​the Bor District (eastern Serbia), where the more than 60 milliliters could fall over 24 hours.

RHMZ ihas issued a red meteorological alarm for this part of Serbia, which means that the weather will be very dangerous. It can cause great material damage and even pose danger to the safety of people and animals.
