First step made towards ending state of emergency in Serbia!
At the moment, this proposal is being adopted, after which it should be forwarded to the National Assembly
Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin has submitted to President Aleksandar Vucic and the Government of Serbia a proposal for the abolition of a state of emergency. The government should adopt it at today's session, and following procedures, forward it to the National Assembly for adoption, Telegraf has learned.
This would create formal conditions for lifting a state of emergency and ending police curfew that has been in force to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
As announced by President Vucic, the National Assembly is expected to confirm the lifting of the state of emergency on Wednesday, while the order limiting movement of people would expire on Thursday.
"First, the government and the prime minister will receive a reasoned opinion and position of the Ministry of Defense, all according to the procedure, and then it will be published in the Official Gazette. So, on Thursday we should have no more curfews," he said yesterday.
A state of emergency was declared on Sunday, March 15 throughout Serbia, and the decision was announced by President Vucic after holding a series of meetings with security services, the head of the Serbian Orthodox Church, and representatives of two crisis HQs involved in the fight against coronavirus.
The decision to introduce a state of emergency came into force immediately as it was published in the Official Gazette of Serbia that evening at 21:10 hours.
