Famous wartime surgeon Dr. Lazic dies after testing positive for coronavirus

The Trade Union of Physicians and Pharmacists of Serbia has announced that Dr. Miodrag Lazic, a Nis-based specialist in surgery, has passed away. It was previously reported that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and was fighting the virus.

"Dr. Miodrag Lazic, a specialist in surgery from Nis, died today from COVID-19. May he have eternal glory and peace be upon his soul. We ask all doctors in Serbia to pay homage to this colleague of ours on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at 10 am, with a minute of silence. The victims must not remain nameless! Take care of your doctors so they can take care of you," the trade union said on their Facebook profile.

Wartime surgeon Dr. Miodrag Lazic, who was 65, was the director of the Emergency Center in Nis, in the past participated, as a volunteer, in the defense of the Serb Republic, where he excelled with his fighting spirit and dedication.

In 1991, he left the comfortable life of a surgeon in Nis, to spend the next four years, often and under fire, fighting like a lion for the lives of thousands of wounded soldiers, women, children...

The news that he was infected with coronavirus only came to light five days ago.
