Top coronavirus epidemic doctor says he wants to quit: "Time to step back. I won't wage wars"

"I was disappointed by the entirely childish behavior of those who should be the most responsible..."

Epidemiologist Dr. Predrag Kon has said on Facebook that it was time for him to step down and "let the better ones run the pandemic", stating that the reason for the attacks on him and the expert team on the social networks was coronavirus making its way to the Gerontology Center in Nis.

"As far as I can see on Facebook, the main 'culprit' for the virus penetrating into the Gerontology Center in Nis is me and the expert team. It's time for me to step back and let the better ones lead the (fight against) the pandemic. I don't know how to do better and I can't. I will not wage 'wars' against anyone except the virus. I am constantly monitoring all thinking people and since all the anger has, instead of onto the situation and the virus itself, turned onto me and the expert team, it is time to step aside. Temporary checking out... All the best!" wrote Dr. Kon.

sIn a previous post, the expert stated that with 140 residents and four employees (of a Nis nursing home) getting sick, there was a major impact on this center and the entire healthcare system.

"This must not be repeated. I don't think it will be. Just when you begin to believe that everyone understood what we were doing, I was disappointed by the entirely childish behavior of those who should be the most responsible... it is the  kind of behavior that leads to the deaths of dozens of people. Still, we move on. We will stop this beast," said Kon.

Due to this serious incident, when the disease entered among the most vulnerable population, all 140 residents and four employees of the Gerontology Center in Nis, who have been infected, have been evacuated into the Nis Clinical Center. The 47-year-old director. M.S., has been taken into police custody and is currently held there for 48 hours.
