It's true. Serbia cancels agreement allowing employment of our medical staff in Germany
"The other side showed complete understanding"
Reactions have started coming in quickly after the announcement that a contract allowing recruitment and drain of our medical professionals to Germany has been suspended.
The question that arises is whether the canceling of the contract would disrupt relations between the two countries, and further, whether it would indeed stop Serbian nurses from going to Germany.
As the competent minister says, the authorities had to start somewhere. And the plan is to first suspend the project run by German organization Giz Triple Win.
"The position of the state is that we must deal with economic migrations, for this purpose the department I head fully supports the policy of President Aleksandar Vucic and his fight for each of our citizens. For this reason, I ordered the immediate termination of further departures of our workers by suspending this agreement," Zoran Djordjevic, Minister of Labor, Veterans and Social Affairs, told Telegraf Biznis.
The director of the National Employment Service (NSZ) informed the other side, who showed complete understanding for our decision, he added.
Next, the path toward canceling the agreement in the near future will be considered, and until then it will remain suspended.
During 2019, 70 nurses went to work in Germany via the NSZ. Since 2013, an average of about 100 persons applied to relevant NSZ job ads.
