The exact date of the Belgrade Victor's return to Kalemegdan announced
Over the few months that the restoration has lasted, many mysteries of the Victor have been uncovered, both on the statute itself and on the pedestal on which it had stood for more than nine decades
The Belgrade Victor returns to Kalemegdan three and a half months after the restoration had begun. The Belgrade City Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments has announced the date on which the symbol of the capital city will be back in its old place.
"The Victor returns to the Belgrade Fortress from the studio in Smederevo on February 12! We invite you to come and take advantage of the unique opportunity to see the Victor on Thursday, February 13, from the early morning hours before he is returned to the pedestal, which is scheduled for February 14," said the Belgrade City Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments.
Belgraders, as well as many tourists, will have the opportunity on February 13 to see the Victor up close and witness all the work that has been done on the statue.
The Victor statue was removed from the pedestal located in Kalemegdan park in the Belgrade Fortress on October 10 last year, and immediately transported to Smederevo. In the meantime, it was determined that the Victor was in a very poor condition, that there was even a possibility of a strong wind toppling him over.
At the same time, over the few months that the restoration has lasted, many mysteries of the Victor have been uncovered, both on the statute itself and on the pedestal on which it had stood for more than nine decades.
