First verdict in missing babies affair: Instead of learning about their daughter, they receive €10K

Ljubomir Trojanovic sued the state of Serbia for negligence in this case

The Vranje Basic Court issued its first verdict on Monday in the "missing babies" affair.

Ljubomir Trojanovic sued the state of Serbia for negligence in the case, citing a domestic verdict, but also the case law of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.

The court accepted Trojanovic's claim for damages and, according to his attorneys Dragan and Vuk Nikolic, awarded him damages of 1.25 million dinars, including default interest from the day the lawsuit was filed.

"The defendant is obliged to - as compensation for non-pecuniary damage, mental anguish, failure to respond by state authorities and intentionally withholding information about his daughter's real fate - pay the determined compensation within 15 days from the date of the verdict," the decision of the Basic Court in Vranje said.
