Turkey donates 15 million euros worth of military equipment to Montenegro
According to the Turkish embassy, the list will first include military equipment needed by the Montenegrin Ministry of Defense, and then Montenegrin officials will visit Turkish defense companies to determine the suitable equipment
The Turkish Ministry of Defense will donate approximately 15.5 million euros worth of equipment to the Montenegrin army over the next five years.
The Turkish embassy in Podgorica recalled that Turkey and Montenegro signed many military agreements, including the Framework Agreement on Cooperation in Military Fields for Training, Technology and Science in 2014 and the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Military Industry in 2017, CdM reports.
"The Military Financial Cooperation Agreement provides assistance worth 100,000 million Turkish liras (about 15 million euros) for modernization of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, while the Financial Aid Protocol provides 3.5 million Turkish liras (about half a million euros) for training of the Armed Forces of Montenegro. The funds will be allocated, not at once, but gradually, for the period 2020-2024," the embassy said.
As they added, these agreements do not envisage a direct transfer of money.
"The list will first include military equipment needed by the Montenegrin Ministry of Defense, and then Montenegrin officials will visit Turkish defense companies to determine the suitable equipment. Finally, the procurement of this equipment will be carried out by the Turkish Ministry of National Defense," the embassy said.
