Vuk Jeremic says SzS will block all entrances to RTS. Public service condemns such acts
Radio-Television of Serbia (RTS) appealed to domestic and international media organizations and associations to condemn such behavior
One of the leaders of the Alliance for Serbia (SzS), Vuk Jeremic, announced that SzS, its activists and citizens will block all entrances to the RTS building in Takovska Street on Friday from 12 to 8 pm. However, RTS appealed to domestic and international media organizations and associations to "condemn such behavior, and if possible, bring perpetrators and those encouraging them to their senses before it's not too late."
"Since RTS is blocking the truth and it cannot enter this institution, SzS members, citizens and activists will block the RTS building," Jeremic said.
Jeremic said it would be a peaceful blockade, that there would be no violence or tension, and that they would be ready for the presence of attackers.
"It will be a warning blockade in the hope that journalists of that media company will start doing their job professionally," Jeremic said at a press conference.
He said that RTS showed no interest in any conversation with whistleblower Aleksandar Obradovic who would have had something to say.
"RTS showed no interest in talking to Marija Lukic, journalist Milan Jovanovic, whose house was burned down, nor with post office workers," Jeremic said.
He said the Interior Ministry (MUP) had not given permission for the gathering, although SzS duly reported it and said it was not "proposed in a regular manner because it had to be reported five days in advance."
"We wonder if spontaneous rallies against the opposition in Nis and Leskovac had been duly reported," Jeremic said.
RTS: Such behavior is unacceptable and very dangerous
RTS responded to this stating that public service employees are being physically prevented from doing their job while the RTS property is being damaged and destroyed.
The most recent examples are the blockade of all entrances to the main building of the RTS, which prevented employees and guests of various programs from free movement and work.
"In addition to this behavior being unacceptable, it is also very dangerous, and so far by mere luck and reasonable behavior of security organs serious and unforeseeable bad consequences on everyone have been avoided. It is dangerous to further test luck and patience, which is why we appeal to the entire political public of Serbia and around the world, as well as domestic and international media organizations and associations, to condemn such behavior, and if possible, bring perpetrators and those encouraging them to their senses before it's not too late."
The same statement of the public service said:
"We do not seek protection from criticism. Society has legal and effective mechanisms to correct irregularities, if any, in the operation of RTS, be they program, business and financial or editorial in nature."
However, this should not be done using physical violence. It is especially unacceptable and dangerous to initiate a hostage crisis, which is the true description of a blockade to which all those who find themselves in the RTS building are exposed.
Whoever is doing this should not expect RTS to give them space to promote such political ideas, bullying and calls to violate the law, said RTS.
