Kings of Cuban music play Belgrade on Saturday: Juan de Marcos Gonzalez performs with his orchestra

World-renowned Cuban musicians Afro Cuban All Stars, a multi-person orchestra led by Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, will hold a concert on November 2 (starting at 8:30 pm) at the Sava Center in Belgrade. The concert will be held under the auspices of the Cuban embassy.

"I am happy that we will perform in your country of rich history. I hope you enjoy the music we will be playing on November 2 and that you will be happier after the concert than you were before. The most important thing in life is to be happy! It doesn't matter how much you have in your pocket, it's important to do what you love, even if you aren't paid enough for it. You only live once. We need to be active and happy, without worries," says Juan de Marcos Gonzalez.

The extraordinarily rich musical heritage of Cuba has been presented successfully by Afro Cuban All Stars with every new concert and release since their first album, "A Toda Cuba Le Gusta," recorded as part of the same studio session with old Cuban musicians, such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Pio Leyva, Manuel Licea "Puntillita" and Ruben Gonzalez, and was released in 1997 along with the famous "Buena Vista Social Club" and "Introducing... Ruben Gonzalez". De Marcos was the architect of the Buena Vista Social Club project.

Following the success of "A Toda Cuba le Gusta", de Marcos decided to continue Afro-Cuban All Stars project, as the leader of the orchestra on the notable subsequent albums "Distinto, Diferente" (1999) and "Step Forward" (2005), as well as on the live album "Absolutely Live" (2009) and "Absolutely Live II" (2017). Just as he initially wanted to show the talents of the old masters to the world, de Marcos is now interested in promoting Cuba's brilliant young musicians. Therefore, Afro-Cuban All Stars is a multi-generational set-up, which successfully utilizes influences from classical genres such as son and danzon, as well as contemporary dance rhythms such as timba.

"With Afro Cuban All Stars, we strive to showcase the richness of Cuban music. Our concerts are a journey through Cuban music, its history and all its genres. To me, all genres are valid, I make no distinction between them. It's all one, Cuban music," explains Juan de Marcos.

Tickets for the Afro Cuban All Stars concert on November 2 in Belgrade cost 1,800, 2,000, 2,300 and 2,700 dinars. You can buy them from the Sava Center box office, as well as from points of sale and the www.tickets.rs  network.
