A car crash in Chicago that killed Marko Boskovic, 27, from Obrenovac in Serbia, and Laura Uribe from Columbia, has left another Serb seriously injured - Momcilo Grujic, 27, the boyfriend of late Laura. According to the Go Fund Me website, Momcilo is currently in a coma, while US media are saying that his condition is serious but stable.
The fourth victim of a drunk driver, another 27-year-old who was also in the car driven by Boskovic, was released after medical examination at the hospital.
Marko Boskovic was killed on the spot, while Laura Uribe passed away during the day in the hospital.
The girlfriend of the severely injured Momcilo Grujic is originally from Columbia, and came to Chicago to earn her master's degree. Her family said she immediately fell in love with the city where she lived her last days.
"She followed her dreams. She was a very smart, wonderful person. She was at the same time a sister and another mother to my children. She helped us every day, she was different from the others," Laura's sister said through tears.
Friends are currently raising funds to help the families of Momcilo and Laura.
The police arrested the drunk driver, Juan Rodea-Cruz, and found several open and unopen cans of beer and a bottle of liquor in his possession. The officers who brought him in said he was visibly intoxicated. His trial is due to begin on November 25, on charges of driving under the influence and causing a fatal accident. If found guilty on all counts, Cruz could be sentenced to 28 years in prison.
