Recording of Aleksandar I Karadjordjevic from 86 years ago: This is what the king sounded like

The video shows King Aleksandar greeting the Czechoslovak people and their President Masaryk

Thanks to a unique recording owned by Jugoslovenska Kinoteka (Yugoslav Film Archive) we can hear what the voice of King Aleksandar I Karadjordjevic, the Unifier.

The footage was made at the villa of King Aleksandar I Karadjordjevic on the island of Bled in 1933. It shows the king as he receives Flieder, then a minister in the Czechoslovak government, who was visiting Yugoslavia.

Apart from the video, the fact that as a testimony to this event there is also a sound recording of the voices of King Aleksandar and Minister Flieder, makes this footage a unique document of Serbian history.

The video shows King Aleksandar send greetings to the Czechoslovak people and their President Masaryk. The minister is thankful for the warm reception, and the good weather during his stay in Bled.

The very next year, on October 9, 1934, King Aleksandar was assassinated in Marseille, France. He was only 45 years old.
