Novak Djokovic's victory over Juan Ignacio Lander was his 71st at the US Open. In doing so, he became the fifth on the list of all-time winners at the American Grand Slam.

With the ninth straight win at the Flushing Meadows, the Serbian tennis player went side by side with Pete Sampras in terms of total wins at the US Open.

Djokovic, the four-time defending champion, is two victories short of Ivan Lendl's record.

But to enter the top three, he will have to wait until next year, as Andre Agassi is in that position with 79 wins.

If he defends the title, Djokovic will add five more wins to his score, which means that he will go into next year's tournament with 76 victories.

In second place is Roger Federer with 87 triumphs, but he is still in the game. The undisputed US Open champion is Jimmy Connors with a whopping 98 wins.

This statistic concerns the total number of victories, rather than victories in a row.
