42-year-old Aleksandar Pesic, his mother Stanica, and his eight-year-old twin sons all died during the weekend in in a car accident on the Belgrade-Nis highway near Pozarevac in eastern Serbia.

The accident happened when their 49-year-old Adem Smail, behind the wheel of a Volkswagen, crashed into the victims' Citroen for as yet unknown reasons.

"Don't ask me anything. In an instant, I lost my loved ones. Where will I go, what will I do - I don't know how my other grandson is doing, all I know is that he's been injured."

This is how Pesic's father Dragutin spoke, in a shaky voice, about the traffic accident, at a time when one of the twins was still alive.

Unfortunately, more tragic news came on Sunday - the only survivor of Satuday's horrific accident, the eight-year-old for whose life the doctors had been fighting since the crash, had died in the hospital.

ALBANIAN CRASHED INTO THEIR VEHICLE

The accident happened on Saturday around 10 a.m. on the Belgrade-Nis highway near the exit for Pozarevac, when the Finish number plates Volkswagen driven by an Albanian from Kosovo, Adem Smail, who is a Finnish citizen, crashed into Pesic's Citroen.

Smail had his wife and two children in the car at the time of the accident, but fortunately none of them were injured.

What caused the accident is not yet known, but some information has emerged suggesting that the Albanian fell asleep at the wheel. In any case, he lost control of the vehicle. Perisic's car overturned several times after the crash, and ended up in a ditch by the side of the road.

HE PRAYED THAT AT LEAST ONE CHILD WOULD SURVIVE; BUT THE OTHER TWIN PASSED AWAY, TOO

The news of the trgic accident only arrived in the Kragujevac settlement of Pivara, where the Pesic family is from, in the afternoon. Grandfather Dragutin Pesic, grief-stricken, was receiving condolences from his neighbors and friends. But there were no words of consolation for him.

Dragutin said he was told he had lost his son, wife and one of his grandsons. Speaking with enormous difficulty, he said he heard on the news that an accident had occurred and that a Kragujevac license plates car was mentioned.

Dragutin then called his son, his wife. In vain, as no one picked up the phone. The darkest suspicion came true when he was told the names of the victims.

"Please don't ask me anything. In an instant, I lost my loved ones. Where will I go, what will I do - I don't know how my other grandson is doing, all I know is that he's been injured," the pensioner said, barely able to speak.

As the old man clutched his hands together, his neighbors could not believe that such tragedy had struck the family .

"We have been neighbors and friends for a long time, but I don't even know what to say to Dragutin, how to comfort him," one neighbor told the daily Vecernje Novosti.

Aleksandar Pesic, who died with his boys and his mother, was very close to the twins, the newspaper's reporter said. He and his wife had the children after undergoing treatments for many years.

Aleksandar's brother has also passed away. He and the children lived with his parents, Stanica and Dragutin.
