Serbian students win top prize at global competition held in US with electric bike project
"It's enough to get on the bike, you can, but you don't have to pedal. It's given commands, like a motorcycle," said the winning team from Serbia
Students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (ETF) in Belgrade have won the top prize at the world-renowned International Future Energy Challenge (IFEC), held in Madison.
The competition, organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), saw the Serbian students compete with their colleagues from India, China, Germany, the Netherlands and the United States.
The students were given the task of designing a high standards energy electronic device, and came up with an electric bicycle that runs on batteries.
They worked on this project for a year and a half, and the point was to find a renewable energy system. Their bike is characterized by high efficiency.
"It's enough to get on the bike, you can, but you don't have to pedal. It's given commands, like a motorcycle. And it can go up o 48 kilometers per hour," said the winning team from Serbia.
The electric bike also has a mobile phone stand, which communicates with the vehicle via an Android app, and shows the internal temperature of the bike.
Another phenomenal feature is the possibility to unlock your bike with a fingerprint.
"We believed, because we know how much effort we put into this project, we would spend all day in the labs and our work has paid off," say ETF students.
