A huge storm will start in entire Serbia: The emergency team is on high alert!
The meteorological situation is continuously monitored and it is noted that the biggest blow is expected from this afternoon, from 5 pm, until tomorrow afternoon, when we can expect the hardest rainfall
All the preparations have been made to avoid the year 2014 again when Obrenovac was flooded and other parts of Serbia. Due to the massive rain, which will fall until Friday in the morning, the level of preparedness was raised to the highest level, and day-to-day duty was introduced, said Branislav Nedimovic, Minister of Agriculture and Water Management.
- A large amount of rain will fall in the next several days, but the situation isn't the same as 5 years ago. Also, our systems are much better than in 2014. We have had 500 different construction sites where we worked on the improvement of systems, and the focus was on the solutions of most critical points. I can say that 2014 won't happen again. We have learned a lot of lessons back then. When a snake bites you, you are afraid of lizards - adds Nedimovic.
The minister said that besides the possible problems with the floods, he doesn't expect any other problems.
- If there is a lot of rainfall in the mountains in a short time frame, then there can be floods of smaller rivers, especially in Kolubara and Jadar areas, in Western Serbia. At this moment, we don't have any emergency defenses against floods. Sava river is growing. It has a somewhat higher level than two days ago, but it still has room to grow, so there is no fear from it - adds the Minister.
He states that the meteorological situation is continuously monitored and it is noted that the biggest blow is expected from this afternoon, from 5 pm, until tomorrow afternoon, when we can expect the hardest rainfall.
The Minister stated that the operational staff was formed with the water management companies and that the necessary machinery and equipment were prepared.
- All water management companies from the region of Vojvodina and Western Serbia have been placed in the highest level of preparedness, and mechanization and personnel have been provided, as well as sufficient quantity of materials for remediation of certain points where there are problems. The warehouses are full, everything is ready, the fuel, and jackets, and sand. Everything is in full capacity - says the minister.
The Republic Hydrometeorological Institute has repeated a warning that a large amount of precipitation is expected in our country from today to Friday. For a total of five days, in the southwest, west, north and central parts of the country from 80 to 120, in the east and southeast of 40 to 80 liters per square meter.
Minister Nedimovic emphasizes that he is in contact with his colleagues from the surrounding areas and that he had talked yesterday with Boris Pasalic, Minister of Agriculture of Republika Srpska.
- We have full coordination regarding the flow of information - adds Nedimovic.
