Young Croats ask their government to send an apology to the victims of the "Storm"

It was stated that the reason for the publishing of the handbook was the misunderstanding of the duty of Croatian politicians to address past crimes for which Croatia is responsible

The Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Croatia invited President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic to make an apology to the victims of crimes committed during and after the military-police operation "Storm", with the mark that the attitude of the politicians towards the victims of the "Storm" is becoming increasingly worse with each passing year.

Young Croat taught a lesson to his fellow countrymen: I am tired of raping of the past, of great Croats, Serbs, Chetniks, Ustashas...

- The duty of the state top to apologize is, first of all, important to the victims of the crimes, and then to the society as a whole - they said from the Youth Initiative for Human rights.

They point out that in the 23 years since the end of the war, no senior state official sent a sincere apology to the victims of crimes and for serious violations of human rights, which are undoubtedly found to have been committed by members of the institutions of the Republic of Croatia or units under the control of the Republic of Croatia.

Representatives of the Initiative presented a manual for politicians "How to Apologize for Crimes", intended for all politicians, and invited citizens to sign the online #ISPRIKA petition launched by this initiative.

It was stated that the reason for the publishing of the handbook was the misunderstanding of the duty of Croatian politicians to address past crimes for which Croatia is responsible.

It was stressed that responsibility does not constitute the guilt of the people and the state, but individuals, and it is determined by a conviction, and the responsibility of politicians, society, and every citizen is to condemn these crimes.

They think in the Initiative that an apology of the state top can significantly contribute to the reconciliation of states and nations, recognizing the suffering of the survivors and the families of the victims, and restoring their dignity.

The statement says the sincere apology of senior state officials shows that society has the strength to face the past, acknowledge and condemn inhumane acts.
