My son asked me to buy him a Croatian flag, I did not know what to say to him: The status of this man from Belgrade is the center of attention on Facebook

People were killed, they lost everything, they were expelled from their homes. However, he is just a boy, is it really important to burden him about those things?

Croatia and France met in the finals of the World Cup. The euphoria is at its peak and the inconvenient questions keep piling up. The man from Belgrade published a status on his Facebook which quickly got in the center of attention. His son wished for a Croatian flag, but how to explain to a child that it is not the best idea?

- My kid is six and a half years old and he loves football. On the road to Vis (the island in Croatia), where we spend our summers every year in a house of Maja's parents, he asked me to buy a Croatian flag. I didn't know what to answer. It is very complicated - he wrote on his profile.

The child doesn't know about the wars from the nineties, he doesn't know how many people died in that unfortunate war. People were killed, they lost everything, they were expelled from their homes. However, he is just a boy, is it really important to burden him about those things?

- I don't even get it, "the curse of small differences". And my name sounds more Croatian if we want to be honest. The same language, the same names, the joint memories. If I had fallen asleep in 1991, and if I woke up today, on the day of the great game, I would have thought that Yugoslavia was playing. Modric, Rakitic, Pericis... Just like the boys from the area, somehow ours, who went into the world and they spread the glory of our area. What area? Croatian, alright - he added.

- But, how to admit that my son and I are genuinely happy for the success of the Firepeople? I won't admit it. When my son plays football on the nearby terrain with children from Zagreb, Slavonia, Dalmatia, and when he scores a goal, he celebrates just like Modric or Perisic, he yells their names, he warns me that I still haven't bought him a jersey, I don't have any other move than what I am about to do - the father of the six-year-old boy said.

- I got up, I sat in the car and I went to buy a jersey. Probably from Modric. Good luck with the game! Don't fail my son. He has the right for the happier future than the one we had! - this man from Belgrade concluded.

Many supported him. The comments of support kept coming at lightning speed, and there were also funny ones. We chose a few of them:

"I have to say that this is a great idea to save your car in Croatia, to put Croatian flag on the car and it will be intact."

"I would personally appreciate if some of our players went out and congratulated the neighbors for the finals. I think that it would be a good message and an act of friendship".

"From the moment when thew wrecked my car when I was with my family in Croatia, I no longer think about the possibility of spending my summer there. I think that it wasn't the only incident with Belgrade license plates."

EVERYBODY HAS THE RIGHT TO CHEER FOR WHOMEVER THEY WANT

Nobody will be a traitor or less of a Serb if they cheer for Croats, and he won't be the biggest patriot if they cheer for the French, or against Croats. Those are the basics.

It is completely insignificant for whom you are personally cheering by the TV because you can't influence the end of the game. If you were at the stadium, if you were the part of the mass, you can encourage the players to change the outcome of the match. Of course, the cheering in sport is something else, because the victory of the team you are supporting is bringing you the personal satisfaction, but that is purely on an individual thing.
