Srebrenica Commemoration: Thousands of people paid a tribute to the victims (VIDEO)
A large number of citizens begun to arrive at the Commemorative Center since early morning
23rd anniversary was marked at the Memorial center in Potocari since the crime in Srebrenica, where the representatives of the government and the citizens gathered. They come here each year from all over the country, and the day of mourning was declared in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After the speech of the officials, the delegations laid wreaths in the Memorial Center and they paid the tribute to the victims. The religious part of the commemoration followed, and the burial of the fragments which were subsequently identified will be performed, like each previous year.
A commemorative session of the Municipal Assembly was held in Srebrenica, where the tribute was paid for all citizens of this municipality who died in the last war.
A large number of citizens begun to arrive at the Commemorative Center since early morning, and according to the agency reports, everything is peaceful and in accordance with the security plan for today's gathering.
Besides the police of Republika Srpska, the representatives of other safety agencies and international organizations are present in the headquarters.
The Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Dunja Mijatovic was present at the commemoration, including the leader of Serbian Liberal Democratic Party Cedomir Jovanovic, as well as the head of the canonical non-recognized Montenegrin Orthodox Church Miras Dedaic.
The Ministry of Internal affairs of Republika Srpska is responsible for the security of today's commemorative gathering in Srebrenica, and all police structures that were hired on this job have good communication between them in order to have the gathering without incident.
Member of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, Dragan Covic, announced on TV this morning that a "terrible crime" was committed in Srebrenica.
- Today, we are asking for forgiveness, even on behalf of those who don't have the courage to do so. We are building the common European future on truth and reconciliation - wrote Covic.
Croatian Democratic Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina announced yesterday that the match between Croatia and England on the World Championship won't be organized for people to watch in Mostar.
- We believe that the victims of the war tragedy of the past will be respected on Wednesday, but also that there will be a feeling of hope and happiness for the world success of Croats in order to build a better future, and the encouragement for everybody that even small countries and people can achieve top results. We are cheering for our players with faith that we will cheer for them again on Sunday - they said from Croatian Democratic Union.
