Aleksic was transported with serious injuries to Trebinje hospital, where he died after 6 days in a coma
Four soldiers of the Army of Republika Srpska beat up 27-year-old Srdjan Aleksic on this day 25 years ago, in 1993, on the city market, because he was defending his Bosniak Friend Alen Glavovic.
Aleksic was transported with serious injuries to Trebinje hospital, where he died after 6 days in a coma.
Mayor of Trebinje Luka Petrovic said that the deed of Srdjan Aleksic was an act which has risen him above the general turmoil of war with his values and he showed what it means to be a man.
- City administration in Trebinje should dedicate one day in a year to Srdjan Aleksic who died fighting for someone else's life and we will try to prevent any conflicts from erupting ever again - Petrovic said a year ago.
One of the suspects in the murder, Savo Redzo, died on a war front in Trebinje. His son Snezan said that he is sorry for everything that has happened.
He thinks that it was some crazy time and that some events couldn't be avoided.
When Srdjan died, he and his twin brother were less than seven years old, they didn't even know what happened.
- As high schoolers, brother and I were in the monastery Tvrdos near Trebinje in 2003. Rade Aleksic was building a fountain in front of the church and I helped. He was talking to my brother and me and to all others, we didn't even think that was the father of Srdjan Aleksic - said Snezan for "Blic" in 2016.
He said that he found out who was Srdjan's father a few years later, while he was studying in Belgrade.
- I was watching a movie "Srdjo" and I understood that Rade Aleksic was the man we built the monastery Tvrdjos. In a moment he said that he knew us, not saying anything bad about us, nor about our late father - explains Snezan.
When he returned to Trebinje for the studies, Snezan met Rada, and now he is occasionally visiting his catering facility downtown.
- This is a small city and we all know each other. Sometimes, we greet on the street, and I go to the tavern like in any other object. I never got an objection from that man, but we never spoke so far - Snezan said.
He said that there were some provocations in Trebinje from certain individuals, but Srdo's father never showed anything that would hurt him or his twin brother.
Rade is walking the streets of Trebinje and he speaks about the virtues of his son, the feelings of sadness and pride overflow in him. He has risen, as he said, above that time and he confronted violence with love and humanity.
- 24 years, his child would have 24 years now, my grandchild. That is something that makes tears go on your eyes, but when I think how many people accepted Srdjan, that is not respect, I see that they look at Srdjan as their own - Rade Aleksic said before, Srdjan's father.
Alen Glavovic thinks precisely that about him.. Srdjan saved his life on Trebinje market, at the Freedom square. He lives in Sweden now, but that doesn't stop him from visiting Srdjan's father and to go to the cemetery every year, reports N1 Sarajevo.
