Unlike previous years, there was shooting in two more locations in the center of Jackson city, and one of them was the parking of the restaurant
Citizens of the little town Jackson in California had the opportunity to see the fiery celebration of Christmas according to the Julian calendar, directed by their fellow Serbian neighbor.
It is a long tradition that has been the focus of world media 8 years ago when videos were published from the city of Jackson where many men dressed in formal suits fired into the air from hunting rifles, celebrating Christmas.
Unlike previous years, there was shooting in two more locations in the center of Jackson city, and one of them was the parking of the restaurant.
Trucks could be seen in both places decorated with Serbian and American flags, people hugging and congratulating each other, and a large number of shotguns and other firearms that were fired in the air.
This tradition of shooting in the air exists for more than a 100 years, and the weapons are filled with blanks, and everything is performed with the permission and police escort.
The city of Jackson has 5.000 citizens, it was founded during the gold fever in the 19th century, Serbs came to that part of California 120 years ago, together with immigrants from France, Italy, and Ireland.
Due to the large population of people respecting Serbian tradition, the Christmas decorations in shops is not taken down until the "Serbian Christmas" is over, and the local residents, no matter the origins, know about the "Yugoslav way of celebration".
There is a church of St Sava here as well.
