Intergovernmental Committee for the Preservation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has made a decision to enter Kolo on UNESCO list on December 7, 2017

A traditional national dance was signed under the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, published by the Ethnographic Museum on its site.

Intergovernmental Committee for the Preservation of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has made a decision to enter Kolo on UNESCO list on December 7, 2017, on their twelveth regular session, in South Korea.

- Based on the decision of the National Committee for Intangible Cultural Heritage, the procedure for the registration of the traditional folk dance was started in December 2015 (which was entered in the National Register in June 2012 as kolo in three, kolo in six), started on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural the heritage of mankind. The Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage at the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade has prepared a nomination dossier, in accordance with the set standards regarding content and technical characteristics, submitted by the Ministry of Culture to the adoption procedure in March 2016 - it is stated in the museum's announcement and they add:

- A large number of formal and informal educational programs organized in cultural institutions, numerous manifestations on which the kolo is performed as part of the official competition and magazine programs involving cultural and artistic societies, or as spontaneous activity of the gathered participants, (such festivals in Guca, Topola...), performing kolo at private celebrations (weddings, births, baptisms, celebrations, adulthood ...) testify about the active presence of kolo in various spheres of life in Serbia today, which is one of the important criteria that is needed to be fulfilled to reach on the UNESCO's list.

The kolo is the most widely spread dance on the territory of whole Serbia, and besides the Serbian Orthodox population, which considers it as a feature of national identity, it is also performed by other ethnic and confessional communities.
