In Greece, authorities ordered the evacuation of dozens of people in two municipalities south of Athens, due to forest fires.
The fire in the area of Lagonisi is being extinguished by 40 firefighters with 20 vehicles and two helicopters.
- The situation is tough. The wind is strong, said regional official Yorgos Sofronis on state television, adding that fire has caught the residential areas and that three firefighters were slightly injured while putting out the fire, Reuters reported.
In Albania, a large fire in the National park of Ljogara, Elbasan and the Dajti mountain continues, as the authorities have said, the situation is critical, which is why aid from Italy and Greece has been requested.
- The situation is critical, from 17 to 25 fires are active. The most critical situation is on Ljogara, the Elbasan region, and the Dajti Mountains. Firefighters, police officers and the army are engaged in fire fighting, and we expect airplanes from Greece and one from Italy - said one of the officials, reports ATA.
According to him, despite the fire and critical situation, there are no conditions for declaring a state of emergency.
