Tragedy: They delivered a pregnant woman in her 7th month of pregnancy, baby died after three days, and the mother right after that!
Mother and baby were buried yesterday in Nis' New Cemetery
Ivana Kostic (32) from Nis and her baby Vera died at Institute for Gynecology and Obstetrics Visegradska in Belgrade, under still unclear circumstances. The mother died in the Clinical Center of Serbia, and the baby on the institute for Neonatology.
Unfortunate woman, who was in in her seventh month of pregnancy, was sent from Nis to further treatment at the hospital in Visegradska where she gave birth with a cesarean section on 25th June. The baby died three days later, and soon after the mother as well.
No one from her family wants to comments on the tragedy, and a group was formed on Facebook, "Justice for Ivana and Vera", where people expressed indignation about the tragedy and demanded the responsibility of a doctor.
Anonymous remark arrived this morning regarding this case to Clinical Center, so the director of this health institution, Zoran Radovanovic, immediately formed the commission and ordered internal control.
- This morning, at 7.39 o'clock, the unsigned message arrived at the Clinic Center e-mail, entitled "Remark on the work of a doctors". The message referred to alleged omissions in the treatment of Ivana Kostic. I immediately ordered for internal supervision to be done and to determine whether there were indeed any omissions of our doctors. If it is determined to be true, appropriate measures will be taken - Radovanovic said.
Goran Stanojevic, Deputy Director for Surgical Issues, said that Ivan Kostic was admitted to the Gynecology Obstetric Clinic on June 21st.
- Regular diagnosis was done which is done for pregnant women. Laboratory analysis and ultrasound were performed. It was found that everything is fine with the baby, but it was determined that there is vein thrombosis on the liver with the pregnant woman, so called Budd–Chiari syndrome with initial signs of poor functioning of this organ. She received adequate therapy and was transferred to the Institute of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Visegradska on June 24th - explains Stanojevic.
He reiterated that an internal monitoring commission was formed this morning regarding the death of mother and baby.
- The Commission has a deadline of 48 hours to make a report and the public will be informed about it - Stanojevic announced.
No members of the family of the late woman wanted to comment about the tragedy with the explanation that they are waiting for her medical records.

Ministry of Health said for Alo newspapers that they are familiar with the case and that Health Inspection is examining all facts in the Clinical Center of Serbia.
- The director of the Clinical Center in Nis has already done everything to carry out the so-called internal professional supervision regarding the treatment of a deceased female patient - according to the Ministry of Health.
