More than 7.000 fighters of People's Liberation movement lost their lives in the battles
74 years have been marked today on Tjentiste from the battle of Sutjeska, the greatest battle Partisan forces lead in the World War II, more than 7.000 fighters of People's Liberation movement lost their lives in the battles.
20.000 Partisans were fighting against 120.000 German, Italian, Bulgarian and the Independent State of Croatia forces, with the support of 300 airplanes, with Supreme Headquarters and the Central hospital with 3,000 wounded.
Fifth enemy offensive, which lasted from 15 May to 15 June 1943 and ended breaking partisan forces, their retreat from the ring and advancement towards South East Bosnia.
More than 7.000 fighters of People's Liberation movement lost their lives in the battles.
Flowers have been placed on the central monument to the people's heroes, Memorial ossuary on Tjentiste.
Minister of Labor and Protection of Veterans of the Republika Srpska Milenko Savanovic said that this battle is synonymous with the struggle for freedom and an example to future generations how to defend life and territory.
This battle shows - when human life is at risk, that is has strong spirit to defend from evils, said Savanovic.
Marking the anniversary since the battle on Sutjeska was organized by the committees of Government of the Republika Srpska and Serbia for preserving tradition of liberation wars, and a historical class was held for the hundreds of admirers of partisan movement is Tjentiste.
