Ivana is Serb, and Senad is Bosniak: Because of the future of their children, they plan on running away from Sarajevo
Ivana is Serb, and Senad is Bosniak, and they plan on leaving Bosnia
The anniversary of the death of a couple who is known as Sarajevo's "Romeo and Juliet" prompted the question that divides people into two groups.
Those who are for mixed marriages, relationships, and those who are against it.
Lets recall, Sarajevo "Romeo and Juliet" are Serb Bosko Brkic and Muslim Admira Ismic. Their death serves the entire region as an example of senselessness of war destruction.
These twenty five year old couple, on 18. May 1993, while trying to escape evil and madness that struck they country, were shot on Vrbanja bridge.
On that fatal May day in afternoon hours, they hoped to escape Sarajevo, and they were killed by sniper and they were left for days to lay down in each other's arms on Sarajevo asphalt, because no one dared to move them from the line of boundary.
Their bodies were left to lie down on the street for seven days...
And as the time goes by, mixed relationships are still not met with approval.
Of course, there are mixed marriages, and one of them are Senad and Ivana, young couple from Banja Luka, living in Sarajevo.
Ivana is Serb, and Senad is Bosniak.
- Mixed marriages and relationships in Bosnia can function very well - said Senad.
However, he adds, that they plan on abandoning Bosnia.
- No, not because of us, but because of the future of our children. For example, when they start going to the nursery, or school, they will have to pick the nationality they want to be. Also when they apply for a job.
- In Bosnia, the essence is against mixed marriages and relationships - said this couple and stresses:
- When it comes to the mixed relationship between Bosniak and lets say, German, American... then its not a problem - said Senad for the end.
