VESELIN JEVROSIMOVIC: Social networks became parallel reality

Veselin Jevrosimovic wrote about social networks in his column this week and how they became parallel reality. This is what the president of Comtrade company thinks about the subject.
- I know many people who were not interested in technology and computers til recently - on the contrary, they displayed open dislike for all things digital - and who now spend significant part of their time on social networks, primarily Facebook. How and when they change occurred i am trying to find out myself. Are the smart phones responsible for the the sudden interest in the virtual world, abundance of information that internet provides or those two factors, its hard to say. It is possible that it is human nature and the need to "take a peak" into other's lives, and to show their own in the best light possible. I will leave that to sociologists and other experts to deal with that on scientific basis.
What is more interesting to me is to see in what way virtual life exists and survives alongside the real life, or the way social networks became parallel reality. I have noticed that, for example, many identify Facebook with Internet and that their usage of computer starts and ends with accessing this social network. From posting all of their photos and video footage over Facebook, to communication with their friends and meeting new people, and reading news and playing video games. I am also interested in what way will social networks be transformed in the future and if there will be integration of all services into one unique which will be the place where everything is happening on the internet.
They are working on Facebook to use their current popularity of the network to introduce many new features which should keep current users and attract new ones. Besides, they presented applications and games as a way for independent companies to offer their usefulness, pages for companies that are changing more and more regular business portals, selling of tickets for events, even option for shopping of different goods. There will be more of that in the future, i am sure of that, and the reason is simple, because two billion users of Facebook is serious potential. The danger for their plans is eventually saturation of people with the existing content and revolutionary transformations that are we can sense, and that could change digital world from its roots."
