Is the student right or the teacher? Math problem which divided Serbia (PHOTO)

Simple math problem, caused a storm of comments on social networks, because no one could safely claim that the student was right, or the teacher

Simple math problem that appeared on social networks can show how easily people get confused.

SERBIAN CHILDREN AMONG THE BEST IN THE WORLD: Our fourth graders above average in mathematics!

Namely, the problem was set:

"Ana read one story, and Petar read three stories more than her.

How many stories did Ana and Petar read together?

The boy answered that Ana and Petar read a total of five stories, however, it is said on Facebook comments that the teacher corrected the student, crossed over his answer and wrote that they have read a total of four stories.

Considering that everybody were puzzled with this problem and added answer, we called the mathematician society "Archimedes" to tell us what the correct answer is.

The child is right, the correct answer is five stories. However, it could be a mistake while printing or in the process. We don't know if it was a control test or some practice - said from "Archimedes".

One school from Belgrade confirmed this, saying that the student is right, but he should have solved the problem progressively, first how many books did Petar read, and then to add and get the total number of books they both read.

In any case, student is right, and for now it remains unknown if his answer was corrected by the teacher or someone was just having fun.

If it was the teacher, he was probably confused, simple math operations can sometimes be harder than complicated and gradual tasks.

What do you think, what is the right answer? Write in the comments.
