Virus from Hong Kong arrives to Russia, and this is when it will come to Serbia

The most dominant virus of flue in Europe, we can expect it around New Year, doctors claim that there are no data about its mutation

Flue A (H3N2), so called Hong Kong, from which most people in Serbia get sick from and which is dangerous for older people and children, it is expected to appear in our country in January next year, while greater epidemics can appear after the winter break.

In addition to this virus, it is expected for A (H1N1) to be active, or swine flu, are also B Victoria and Yamagata.

In Russia, where the virus is also expected after the New Year, has already begun vaccination against flu, while in our country is yet to begin distribution of the vaccine according to the medical center.

Our doctors say that so far Serbia has no flue virus but that the waiting rooms are full of patients with fever, sneezing, cough due to minor viral infections, stomach viruses and salmonella, and that this period is suitable for the development of bacterial infections.

Specialist in general medicine at the Health Center "Vozdovac" Dr. Nevenka Dimitrijevic said for Telegraf that doctors' offices are expecting flue only when the snow melts.

- An outbreak of flue is expected only when the snow melts, not before February, a flu vaccination should begin soon. Anyway, now this is the time for topical bacterial infection that suits this kind of climate. Bacteria that caught upper airways give the same symptoms as flue and to determine what it is really about, detailed examinations and lab analysis are required - said Dr Dimitrijevic and said that virus infection is often the trigger to develop bacterial infection.

Hong Kong virus was present during last season of flue in Serbia, as well every year before it.

Professor Branislav Tiodorovic, epidemiologist explains for our portal that there is no fear that it has mutated and that the new kind of virus will appear.

- There is no and there will be no flue before January, February. Russians announced it considering that they always receive it first from the Chinese where it presents big problem, in comparrison to us where flue arrives from Athlantic countries. Currently no one in Europe has it and Norwegians are first to come in contact with it, Spain, Swedish, English...

Considering that the flue is unpredictable, professor Tiodorovic does not exclude the possibility for it to appear a bit earlier.

- The most important thing is that it doesn't mutate, but for now we have no such data. Namely, on the southern hemisphere, after which we get flue, there are no such mutations - said he.

Virus Hong Kong, which appeared for the first time in 1968 in Hong Kong, is the most dominant in Europe. The symptoms appear 18 to 72 hours after the infections. It is usually manifested with high temperature, which can go up to 39 degrees, headaches,  throat pain, chest, wrists and muscles, with coughing and sneezing. Symptoms are usually very modest and they go away after seven days tops. This virus can cause complications with chronically ill patients and it can eventually lead to death.
