Pupils of the regional department of elementary school "Dusan Jerkovic Uca" in Deca will start the new school year in a completely renovated building. Instead of crumbling walls, the ceiling, which is declining, scuffed woodwork, students will "move" the orderly and modernly equipped classrooms, thanks to his countryman Djordje Petkovic.
Although 16 years ago left Serbia and went to America, Djordje never forgot his place. Each arrival from New York in Belgrade, meant a trip to Dec. Since he started working in the "Air Serbia" he has the opportunity to visit more frequently his place of origin. In renovating the building, former student invested 40.000 euros.
- In the school play regarding Saint Sava, i saw that the ceiling has almost fell, most of the building is in very bad shape - said Petkovic. - I found out that nothing has been invested in school for 25 years. I decided to help. The school is renovated according to the United States educational facilities.
As Petar said, pupils did not hide the excitement when they found out that their school will be renovated during the summer break.
- Central heating has been installed, floors have been replaced, all the wood is changed, walls painted, new desks and chairs, and other furniture, bathrooms, multimedia classroom has been made - said Djordje. - Municipality financed the replacement of ceilings, and they will install video surveillance, so the safety of the pupils is monitored in top level.
- We are overjoyed and eternally grateful - Snezana Stankovic does not hide her excitement, principal of the Elementary School "Dusan Jerkovic Uca". - Pupils received practically a new school.
Djordje Petkovic decorated the entire interior, bought technical devices. School has around 110 pupils from first to eight grade which will have excellent working conditions. Besides Djordje and municipality, a company from Dac also helped them.
