NEW BLOODY WAR IS BREWING ON BALKAN BECAUSE OF MIGRANTS: Dramatic warning from Slovenian prime minister shocked Europe
When asked what would happen if Macedonia opened its borders, Cerar said that there would be domino effect
Slovenian prime minister Miro Cerar warns, in the interview for German news "Velt", that the next wave of migrants could cause conflict on Balkan.
"Everything should be done on European outer borders to keep Balkan safe from conflict and Schengen safe from collapsing", he pointed out and added that, if the Balkan route reopened, the conflict would break lose in the region - central Europe and west Balkan.
According to him, if to much illegal migrants came then all countries will close their borders, which leads to quarrels, since the closing of borders means at the same time that they are not accepting people from other countries as well.
"That is how domino effect starts. Which would be extremely harmful to our economy and tourism. If more migrants came than we have to control Schengen border even tighter. If Austria closes their border, then all of the migrants would remain in Slovenia. It is already clear that Austria is preparing for closing of borders", said Cerar on the question what if the agreement with Turkey fails and Austria applies new measures upon reaching upper limit determined for people who search for asylum.
He believes that to that could come as early as September or October, adding that the decision of Austria meant the closure of borders within the Schengen area.
That, however, is not the idea of the Schengen zone. We should do everything at European external borders in order to protect from Balkan conflict, and Schengen from decomposition. If we fail to solve the migration problem common to the EU and the Western Balkan countries then we do not have a common future" believes Cerar, adding that it is not even sure whether Slovenia would be able to overcome the crisis of the same magnitude like the last year.
When it comes to an agreement with Turkey, he stressed that it was part of several measures, which are not sufficient.
He recalled his initiative to help Greece and the establishment of second gate on the border with Macedonia, which had immediate effects.
According to him, when they closed the border, Macedonians are Greeks were forced take action.
"Let's be honest, the Greeks do not provide sufficient protection to Schengen border. Sometimes they only transport migrants further. Of course, their situation is very complicated, but they receive financial support and assistance in policing, but the Greeks do not use all the help "; Cerar criticized.
If the Greece continues to act irresponsibly and severally than, he considered, the other members of Schengen will consider every option they have left, because it is about survival.
When asked what would happen if Macedonia opened its borders, Cerar said that there would be domino effect, because Austria would close their borders, Slovenia theirs, and then Croatia and Serbia their and eventually Skopje would again close their border, because if not, too many migrants would reach every of those countries.
He, at the same time called for it that Macedonia and Bulgaria should be better financially supported.
As for the fence placed between the Slovenia and Croatia, Cerar said that it had to be set, not for migrants, but because the Croatian Government constantly sends refugees on different parts of the border.
"They did not tell us where and when. This fence harms tourism. We have some parts of the fence removed when no longer needed, or we have some left because we have to count on a large number of migrants, which is why we are cautious on the border" he says.
