In downtown Zarkovo, group of toilers are fighting a battle for their survival daily, despite the weather, the hunger they feel often or the shame they see in the eyes of the passing people of Belgrade.

All they want to do is work. Nothing more. Whenever way they can, to come to the employer, minimal wage and a piece of bread.
Radju Asanovic (27) from Rakovica, Milivoje Prvulovic (40) from Zeleznik, Rajko Maricic (53) from Banovo Brdo, are few from 50 workers waiting on the street for employer to hire them, in order to make from 500 to 2.000 dinars. Some days, even nothing.

- I wait here from 6 AM till 7, 8 PM. I wait for anything to come my way, to get some money. It can happen that i don't find anyone today. Out of 30 days in a month, i spend from 5-10 days on work. I do everything. Loading cargo, moving, digging, fruit harvesting, cleaning... Anything in order not to come home without a dime - said Mile and adds there has been no work for a week some time.
In those moments, workers help each other. For yogurt and a famous "masonry sandwich" made from salami and half loaf of bread, all of them gather money, there are days when they leave out the drink, as they say, cant afford it.
- We share everything! If someone has anything, he shares. How not to share if he has nothing, if he is hungry? - said Radju, while others were nodding.

Aca Jovanovic (50) from Simanovac says that he is a construction worker and he does anything, "from the ground up to the roof".

- I have been here for 17 years. I can't get a regular job! There is none! - he explains, while his colleague shows the listings and ads daily, but in vain.

- The competition is huge there, and they want to fight us. Especially if you don't know them. we are more correct here - explains Rajko Maricic.
Nevertheless, not even that is the worst that can happen to these unfortunate men.
- Sometimes we don't get payed for the work we done. Or instead of few wages, we receive only one. We are being lied to, cheated. And above all, we have no one to turn to. When we go to the police, they say we shouldn't go moonlighting, undeclared work. We don't even go to communal police because they want to punish us because we are disturbing peace and order.
In the end of the conversation, they admit they prefer working for a poor man, instead of a rich one.
- At rich ones they don't even give us water, and this poor fellow that doesn't have anything, he gives you everything! - said Mile, while others are picking on the car heading their way.
All is good, they got around for today, but what about tomorrow?
