Four year old Petra Petrovic from Vladicin Han, who was suffering from neuroblastoma, a kind of cancer, after one year of treatment and fighting, she managed to defeat that disease.
Neuroblastoma is a malignity that is 4th most common in children, experts say, and it has been discovered with Petra in June last year. She was treated in Nis in the Institute for mother and child and "Dr Vukan Cupic" in Belgrade.
Petra's mother Jelena said that from the first information that her daughter has cancer, until the first positive results the disease is gone, she said to herself every moment her child will be fine and cured.
- What gave us strength to carry on is Petra's fight and perseverance, but also the belief in God and doctors. In Nis only she received seven chemo therapies before she went to Belgrade. Whenever i looked at her i saw her little body fighting. That was a sign i can not give up, despond and i have to believe my child will be alright. Throughout Petra's illness God rewarded us to understand how beautiful life is and how rich a healthy man is - concludes Jelena Petrovic for OK radio.
Little Petra is still undergoing treatments. She plays at home with her twin brother - Petar, but she likes to walk around the park as well.
- What she endured during the treatment is praiseworthy, real endeavor. Petra is a fighter. With that determination and desire for life, she stood up after every chemo therapy - Jelena remembers of the hospital days.
She expresses gratitude to good people who participated in gathering help for Petra. Special thanks, to the woman in Belgrade, who gave them her apartment to stay while Petra is in hospital.
- We couldn't believe we heard it right. We are both without a job, expenses of the trip and treatment kept on growing. She took us in her home for free, watched over us, even prepared food for us - said Jelena.
After what we have been through, Petrovic say the health is the greatest fortune, and the people are often not aware of that until they lose it.
