THE GATES WERE STOLEN AROUND SERBIA OVER THE NIGHT: Police are not chasing the the thieves, and the girls are THRILLED!

If you woke up this morning without a gate in front of the house, do not panic. This is just another nice custom that the Serbs hed since the pre-Christian time

Many people in Serbia this morning woke up without the gates of the house - but why are they not unhappy. The old Serbian tradition dictates that the night before St. George's, boys sneak out of their homes, and then take off the gate to the house where the girl lives that "caught their eye". On the other hand, when a girl sees that there is no gate, it is a sign that she would marry this year.

THIS IS A MUST FOR TODAY: Believers in Serbia celebrate Candlemas!

This charming custom is still alive in Serbia, evidenced by the police, who say that they arrived this morning and ten applications for attempted theft of gates were waiting for them!

Not only police that are "in trouble" - there are parents who, because of the beauty of his daughter they are still struggling with finding the gate - one family near Cacak found it to as much as 10 kilometers from the house.

Serbians drink 60 million liters of illegal brandy PER YEAR!

Since the tradition to this day the most retained in Sumadija, the most interesting events in connection with this custom comes from that very place. So, in the course of yesterday some ladies were photographed how they adorned their gate, so the image "hung" on Facebook in order to invoke sympathy.

However, of all the anecdotes that have happened on the eve of St. George, the most interesting is a story that is spread across the Internet as an urban legend.

- My brother and me went to his girlfriend to take off the gate. We went with a car to the village, but someone had already taken it, but only a part. I stood a little further, we parked and we thought that we take the other part. At this point a police car stops right next to us. "Good evening, what are you doing here? Now, let's see some ID cards for review"... We would be in trouble if we got the gate - a confession of one guy, who shared his story on internet forum.

This unusual tradition was inherited since the pre-Christian period, at a time when the people in the region respected fertility deity - Jarilo. To this day, it is gladly accepted among the youth, and judging by the gates that were missing last night in Serbia - this will be a year full of weddings.
