According to Informer news agency, Vladimir shared the passion of flying with his brother, and when Nenad suddenly died in the age of 20, he took an oath to dedicate his life to piloting and helping people.
His mother Nadežda (87) said that by saving those people from the plane he fulfilled his life dream.
As Telegraf news agency already reported, his father Vladimir Vodopivec was remembered as the hero of the aviation in World War II.
While still being a regular pilot, he, along with another pilot, Milorad Knežev, took down the American plane when it was going over the airspace of Yugoslavia.
This information can be found on the official website of the Aviation department.
Apart form that, Vodopivec Sr made another feat when he successfully landed a hijacked plane in 1959 on the line Tivat, Montenegro-Belgrade, while one of the passengers was holding a pistol pointed to his head.
- Vladimir is a real professional and a phenomenal person! Whenever there is a problem during the flight it is extremely important that there is no panic in the cabin, that the communication line is good and that the pilot is calm. Vladimir took the best of the situation with the burning plane - said the pilot Borislav Plasković, Vladimir's friend.
