Only 22% of Serbs included in minority education in Croatia

The Serb Democratic Forum (SDF) warned on Tuesday that only 22 percent of school pupils and students of Serb nationality were involved in some of the offered models of minority education

The analysis of upbringing and education in the language and script of the Serb national minority in Croatia, which was done by the SDF, and the 2011 census of population show that out of around 17,000 children and young people of Serb nationality, around 13,000 are out of the system of education in their mother tongue and script.

“Coupled with the years-long problems such as inadequate school books and teaching materials, improper syllabuses and curriculums, or the obstruction of counties in registering minority schools in eastern Slavonia, it can be assessed that the situation concerning the education of the Serb national minority is bad,” Chairman of the SDF Managing Board Veljko Dzakula said.
