Serbian exports to Russia decline by one-third

Serbia’s exports to Russia fell by 33 percent in the first six months of 2015 compared to the same period last year and amounted to USD 322 million, according to the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS)

At USD 943 million, the total imports saw a drop of 18.5 percent.

In the in the first half of this year, total trade was USD 1.26 billion, down 23 percent against a year earlier.

Exports of women stockings, floor coverings, drugs, floor plates and tires to Russia posted drops of 40 percent, 53 percent, 40 percent, 87 percent and 44 percent, respectively.

At the same time, Serbian exports to Russia in the agro-food sector saw a 5.8 percent growth and totaled USD 122 million.

The number of companies exporting and the number of different products exported to the Russian Federation also increased.

Trade between the two countries in the first half of 2015 was marked by the volatility of the ruble and its fall in the period from September 2014 through January 2015, the uncertainty of collection of payments, difficulties in planning and consequently a major decline in both exports and imports, according to the PKS.
